The design featured on the 2004 $1 Fine Silver Kangaroo Coin is Australia's best- known native animal. It combines both traditional and modern design aspects, featuring an image of the kangaroo against the horizon and the orb of the sun.

This kangaroo is the work of the Royal Australian Mint's designer Wojciech Pietranik. The obverse depicts an effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth 11 by Ian Rank-Broadley.
